The Four Best Cheeses for Your Sandwiches

If you’re looking for sandwich experts, you’ve come to the right place. Sandwiches are pretty much all we do at Nadeu’s, so we think we’ve earned the title. Making a sandwich is so much more than putting some meat, cheese, and condiments on bread. You have to know how the flavors and texture will work together to create the perfect sandwich experience. While there’s really no wrong way to make a sandwich, some ingredients work better than others. In honor of National Cheese Lover’s Day on January 20th, we’re going to take a look at the top four sandwich cheeses.

You need the right cheeses to make great sandwiches. Here are our top four sandwich cheeses and why they make the cut.

American

Some people turn up their noses at American cheese, but that’s not fair. In many ways, it’s the perfect sandwich cheese. Its mild flavor complements the other ingredients and it melts easily, making it ideal for hot subs. It may not be anything fancy, but that’s exactly what makes it great.

Provolone

Provolone has a slightly nutty flavor and is popular on Italian-style hot and cold subs. It’s a hard cheese, but it melts well, especially when thinly sliced. Because it has a slightly stringer flavor than American cheese, it’s a good alternative for sandwiches with ingredients with more complex flavors. For example, it’s a popular choice to top meatball or Italian sausage subs.

Swiss

If the flavor of provolone isn’t quite to your taste, Swiss is the cheese for you. Its flavor is also mild and slightly sweet. Many people prefer it for their cold subs because the it’s flavor and texture work well with cold cuts.

Cheddar

Cheddar cheese has a lot of variation in its flavor, ranging from mild to sharp. It adds extra flavor to any sandwich and melts well enough to top a hot sub. If your sandwich needs a little extra something, cheddar cheese is what you’re looking for.
